Remember me as I was,
for time has stolen my mind
and my body has come to still.
I shall never sail the water’s deep again,
or twist the tides of youth.
Those days are gone
as is my mind.
Open to a page,
any page will do.
Caress the words that flow the memories
of my journey that saw a light in the sky.
The old man smiled upon me,
made whole the man of affliction.
Ignorance is truth’s adversary.
Take to heart my words
each a painful strike of resolve,
and maybe in the future you can smile
just before the day’s end;
as I did when twilight winked at me,
stealing my youth away
as well as my mind.
Maybe in my mind somewhere you can find me
upon the lost seas of madness?
Churning thoughts like the albatross
that hangs from the captain’s neck.
Or maybe you’ll just wave from the shore
at the figment within your imagination
you believe is real?
However it ends I know one thing for sure,
the greatest journey I ever endured
was full of faith derived from doubt,
established upon the sea of madness
cupped by the hands of the Great Creator,
at twilight’s last gleaming
upon the sailed ship call life.
