I stand upon the ice field
looking out to the horizon
the midnight sun is far behind me
yet the darkness remains.

Soon the redness of a new day
shall seep onto the canvass of life
soon the ice will break
and I will be free.

The cold seeps deep into my bones
the night air suspends my breath
the words I form are held in darkness
if only a brief moment.

In time my words will be released
by the winds of time
carried away from here
to touch the unknown.

When the ivory gull returns
I shall be long gone
new life will erupt
new hope emerges.

The sounds of their voices
becomes a symphony of life
until their feathers are touched
by the winds of time.
