A notch in our hearts
fearlessly carried.
a whispered breath
like a chinook wind.
a peaceful moment
with an old friend.
a once in a lifetime sunset
draws a silent tear.

What drew 5 friends together so many years ago
is the same thing that draws a nation together.
The “truth” will do that
and in a seemingly magical way
under the last sunset
one star will reappear
one last time.

Then we say goodnight
bow our heads in silence
watch as that star fades into the night sky
and wait for the chinook winds to arrive.
