my kin rest in peace
next to the tall pine
that has withstood a century
of the worst
and has celebrated a century
of the best.
on a sunny day you can find me
sitting next to that pine
listening to the gentle wind.
the lazy motion of tall shadows
rocks me back and forth and
I sway like a newborn in mother’s arms.
I’ll wake you when the moon is full
so you can see your kin dancing in its light.
dream away…dream away…
in the shadow of the pines.
not far from here is a crick that
goes down past the old Taylor place
and into town.
a gentle flow of time passes before us
as it did for our kin.
we’re a century apart
yet I can touch the same water.
I dream I am the lazy water
holding time for somebody else
a memory for those sitting next to the crick
rippling the water with longing fingertips.
Follow the water to the edge of the woods
where the tall pines touch the sky
wait for me there in slumberous’ dream
for the full moon rises tonight.
and with those words I pass them by
as twilight winks to those still awake
the cool mountain air chills the soul
yet my slumberous’ dream remains untouched.
I’ll wake you when the moon is full
so you can see your kin dancing in its light.
dream away…dream away…
in the shadow of the pines.
as twilight turns her back tonight
the full moon rises in silence
I wake as promised by the gentle wind
to see my kin dancing in the shadows.
they too hold time for kindred spirits
that stir the lazy waters.
